Max and I checked out Bowen Park. We saw ducks, totem poles, a pond, a river and a waterfall. Maxi loved sitting and watching the waterfall. He said it was “loud” and there was “soap” in the water (white water). At the beginning of the walk we came across a tree stump. Max asked me …
Guest Post: This was an old, now abandoned campground. I had discovered it a few years ago and brought Mason there today after his baseball game. It has overgrown openings where sites used to be, a boarded up camp office, lots of No Parking and No Swimming signs and a mossy, weedy camp road (that …
D and I really upped our game since Sunday’s meadow hike. The start of this loop is along the Holland Creek Trail (see earlier post) and veers off into a steep 1.5km steep climb to Heart Lake. This is a good workout! When you start the loop, veer LEFT. It will be much easier on …
D and I went fishing (no bites) and tested our advanced hiking skills on an Xtreme meadow path. Wildlife sighting: 1 tiny mouse Number of times D said “pick up those dogs”: 0

As the name suggests, this is a little climb. It took me 45 minutes up to get the the lookout. You can follow the logging road, or take the network of trails. You end at this incredible view of the Alberni Valley – I wish I could capture the views better. Sometimes people pass me …
Trail access is across the highway from Commbs Country Candy Store (bonus!) just before Port Alberni (coming from the East). I could smell the sugar from the parking lot. This is a short, pretty walk and hard to believe you’re just 10 min away from the highway. The “hole in the wall” was blasted through …
This is a nice loop walk around both sides of the river/falls with bridges, nice hill action, huge trees, and WATERFALLS. The water was clear, green and cold. There were a lot of people here today. Doesn’t anyone work? I wore a t-shirt with sun block. I missed that smell.
