The Lookout, Port Alberni

As the name suggests, this is a little climb. It took me 45 minutes up to get the the lookout. You can follow the logging road, or take the network of trails. You end at this incredible view of the Alberni Valley – I wish I could capture the views better.

Sometimes people pass me going the opposite direction and ask me, “how much farther?” I’ve realized I have no concept of time when I’m walking or running. I throw out a time that I think is accurate and later realize how far off I was. It happened on this hike. I passed a school group and a boy asked me “how much further?” I said “about 10 minutes” ( it was closer to 25 min.  He told me “you don’t have far either, about 5 minutes”. It was 2o minutes. Does anyone have a proper concept of time when hiking? Or ever?

Once I was asked what time it was during a morning run by the waterfront. I was so confused I couldn’t answer. I was wearing a watch.
