Cumberland Lake Park, Cumberland

One of my favourite places on the Island, Cumberland is known for their community forest, world-class mountain biking, extensive trail network and huge glacier-fed lake. We drove up pretty early through dramatic Island weather; one minute pouring rain, next minute sunny. Cumberland Lake Park is a popular spot in the summer, full of campers and day-users of the beach and park facilities. This time of year the campground is closed and we just saw a couple of dog-walkers. The rock face is almost straight up from the beach with a waterfall visible. There’s a trail to the top of the waterfall and many others to check out through the forest.  There is very little development on the lake, some houses off Comox Lake Rd as you approach and the campground, making it really feel like you are out in the wilderness.  On a clear day you can see way more mountain action and the Comox glacier. This would be fun lake to explore on a motor boat.
