Glenora Trails Head Park, Cowichan Valley

This is a beautiful network of trails along the Cowichan River.

Here’s the blurb from the government site: The Glenora Trails Head Park is an important eastern gateway to the Cowichan River Provincial Park, the central portion of the Cowichan Valley Trail (part of The Great Trail), the Cowichan River Footpath and Glenora Riverside Park. Huh?

Now I understand why we were confused. We took the unofficial “alternative route” down to the lower river trail. Jim found a geocache. The river was moving very fast, and was a beautiful green colour. Jim caught a fish at the first stop. There were some really interesting trees and lots of spots to access the river for fishing or swimming. You could spend the whole summer on these trails exploring.

Top Survival Tips:

  • “Alternative Route” is probably not along the original path
  • Bring spare batteries for the GPS

Hiking vow

With stronger aspirations, I might have been a better hiker. I might have joined the lineage of great hikers, but now I enter the twilight of a meaningless life. I have given up all hope of mastering and see myself now just as I see others. So to motivate me to become a better hiker I shall endeavor to move through the trees and woods and rocks, or propel the Earth with my feet, spinning it as I push. With each step. While my mind remains easy and watchful. Gentle as a leaf stroking a branch in the wind. -J
